Torchlight – Coming Soon

When Runic Games first released Torchlight on PC, its likeness to Diablo was utterly evident throughout its design and gameplay. In fact, the co-designers of the first two Diablo games worked along with Runic Games to bring Torchlight to fruition. The game was very successful that it made its way to console, released sequels, and now, the publishers of this game are bringing it to mobile devices this year. There were news that the game will come with an online cooperative mode and perhaps a PvP mode as well. This sounds all well and great but we are disappointed to see it base its game progression on in-app purchases. Unfortunately, the game will be free-to-play.

Having said that, the game comes with amazing graphics that fit its prestigious title. The game was demonstrated at the E3 conference and it looked extremely consistent with the Torchlight universe in terms of gameplay, sound effects, dungeon design and visuals. Furthermore, this game was designed from the ground up for mobile devices and the control system it incorporates is very typical to other hack and slash games. For example, you can control movement on the left side of the screen and attack using a big button on the right side of the screen. As demonstrated in the picture above, there are smaller buttons that surround the big button which are specialized for special attacks. In addition, you will be able to choose from different classes: Engineer, Berserker, Embermage, and Outlander.

Torchlight’s story is quite fascinating and takes place in the mining town of Torchlight. It presents a fantasy world where Ember is perceived as the most valuable element in existence. Upon discovering Ember below the town, ancient civilizations are uncovered and abnormal creatures are encountered. Without spoiling the story for you, the dungeon crawler will immerse you into a unique world filled with meandering dungeons and unsettling secrets. To put it mildly, the game is a minor replica of Diablo and that is never a bad thing. We expect the game to be released in between September and December of this year and even though the game will be a freemium title as we have aforementioned, it is a title worth checking.
