The emails keep on coming and people never stop asking, ”When is Pokemon GO coming out?” The truth is no one knows, and probably Niantic itself doesn’t either. The reason is that with a massive title like Pokemon GO, the release date should be strategic and well-thought. Now we all know that the Game Developers Conference (GDC) of 2016 will be held on March 14 – 18 and apparently Niantic will be there!
Let’s get to the details. John Hanke, the CEO of Niantic, will be delivering a session on Pokemon GO. The title of the session will be ”Catch ‘Em All: Pokemon GO and Real World Gaming.” It certainly sounds like a very interesting session; one that we would love to attend. Clearly, what John wishes to show to the world is the Niantic approach of gaming outdoors and how it can be experienced with Pokemon GO. Here is a description of the session excerpted from the GDC website:
Over the last three years, Niantic, Inc. has been defining the genre of Real World gaming, using smartphones and tablets to connect the digital world to the physical world. Niantic’s newest game, Pokemon GO, ups the challenge of real world gaming design, taking a beloved franchise and setting its hundreds of brightly-colored monsters loose across the globe, adding a new Bluetooth wearable device created by Nintendo to the mix. Join Niantic founder and CEO John Hanke as he discusses how the company has developed a unique vision for delivering a mobile Pokemon experience that gets would-be trainers into the outdoors.
Pokemon GO will be the first augmented reality Pokemon game and that’s the reason everyone is going crazy about it. You will literally explore the world in search of Pokemon creatures and some Pokemon are exclusive to limited locations. For example, water Pokemon are expected to be near aquatic areas around the world. This is the adventure we all wanted to be real since childhood and now it is.
We previously mentioned that February 27th, 2016 is an important date for Pokemon GO but we don’t know what it is exactly. It is far from likely to be a global launch for Pokemon GO because the GDC session aims to explain things about the game and they wouldn’t release it before the session. So we are putting our bet on a soft launch or the beta testing phase, which means selected players will be able to have access to the game. The global release will be this year so be excited! Stay tuned with our website so that we can discover everything about Pokemon GO together. You can watch the trailer for this game below.
