We have bitter news to share with you in regards to Disney. First of all, John Blackburn, Studio Vice President & General Manager of the Disney Infinity franchise, has announced that Disney Infinity, the cross-platform/cross-franchise title, has been cancelled. The final playset for Disney Infinity: Toy Box 3.0 will be released in June and will mark the end of the much beloved franchise. After Disney’s 2016 financial reports were released, revealing dramatic losses with up to $147 million lost; they have announced that their game publishing business has come to an end.
That is really sad to hear because Disney is a major gaming publisher on mobile that has constantly released entertaining games. Disney games will still exist and third-party companies can make them, but Disney will not act as a publisher for games anymore. Their latest mobile game released was Disney Crossy Road, so it is interesting to see where Disney will find itself and what will the future of its mobile games be.
