Clash Royale – The Controversy Surrounding Emotes

Consider the following scenario. You and your opponent have low health on your towers. However, you are sending a large amount of troops to your opponent’s tower, and it is only 5 seconds away from destruction. You are winning, you are about to become victorious. Suddenly! Out of nowhere, your opponent sends Fire to your tower and destroys it. Yet, your frustration and anger doesn’t end there. It begins when your opponent spams you with crying and laughing emotes until you get really pissed off and feel like breaking your device. Quite extreme, isn’t it?

We can all agree that we experienced a similar situation in the past. Emotes can piss you off when you’re losing, yet they can be awesome to use when you want to piss off others. The majority of Clash Royale gamers have complained about Emotes to Supercell and want the ability to mute them. However, Supercell responded with a strong message regarding this controversy, and here is the essence of what they said:

Evoking strong emotions – is at the heart of why we’re not planning to implement a mute option. Emotes are loved by some and hated by others – even within the Clash Royale team! We believe these strong emotions are integral to the core of the game.

Clash Royale is not a single player game and shouldn’t feel like one. Emotes are an important reminder that you’re facing another human being – maybe they’re a nice guy, maybe they’re not – but there’s a person at the other end of the Arena and not a robot. You can communicate with them and they can respond, regardless of language or cultural barriers.

We don’t expect everyone to agree with us on this – we’re sure many of you won’t! We do want to be upfront about it and our reasoning behind it.

We are somewhat neutral on this issue. On one hand, we support the existence of Emotes because it’s a fun and novel way of communicating with an opponent that is on the other side of the world. On the other hand, we can understand that they can be frustrating and some players can feel really angry due to the emotional impact these Emotes can cause. Our verdict is to allow a mute option because there is no harm in giving the emotionally vulnerable players the freedom to disable Emotes from settings. What are your thoughts on this issue? 1. Hi. I know this is off point but I’ve got a little request. Could you please try and make you site available to the apple news app? I’d really appreciate it.

  2. Hypocrite Supercell.
Supercell says: Emotes are an important reminder that you’re facing another human being.
Are we idiots? We need emotes to remind us that we are playing with another human being?

Emotes must be removed. It generates a bad sense of competition. Just ask you a question. Why we don’t see taunts in public Ca$h Royale tournaments? Why we don’t see other games promoting taunts between players?

$upercell is promoting taunts only to earn more money, that’s is unethical. I don’t get mad when players use emotes on me, I get mad with $upercell promoting taunts to earn more money.

  3. Emotes are there to evoke an emotional response to taunting which $upercell hopes will be the gamer spending cash to upgrade their cards or buy chest in hopes of getting an all to elusive Legendary card. Also check how thatched are rigged to increase/decrease your chances of winning. Cards are countered and at times elixir generation is unbalanced (without counting additional generated by an elixir pump). Winning and loosing streaks are engineered by the developers.
