Chase & Hunt – Review

For many years, the mobile platform has received more hunting games than we can count and none have produced a sense of absolute originality such as Chase and Hunt [$2.99]. Coming from RGB Game Studios, Chase and Hunt scores phenomenal points on novelty; due to its hunting concept, open world simulation, and impressive AI interactivity. Let us rephrase our case with a question: Do you recall a game that simulates the role of being an eagle that towers above beautiful landscapes through an open world experience?

This is in fact the essence of what Chase and Hunt attempts to deliver. You are an eagle and you have to catch a target number of prey before sunset in order to survive. The process, however, is more fascinating than the goal and you will enjoy the thrilling experience of flying high above land and water. This title comes with four environments which you can play in: Hazarat, a desert land where you hunt for rabbits, snakes, and dogs; Dewshire, located on green foothills with beautiful castle ruins and rivers where you hunt for sheep and monkeys; Steepfall, a land of dry canyons where your prey can be foxes and prairie dogs; Avalonia, a landscape of lakes and green plains that house cottages and snowy mountains where you can hunt gazelle and chickens.

Hazarat, the first map, is available for you to start in but the rest will have to be unlocked with you surpassing a certain amount of bounty within 15 minutes. The gameplay can be long and may feel repetitive in the long run, but is satisfying due to the originality of the concept. As a child, flying was perhaps your most wished for super ability; and now you can experience the thrill of it by embodying an eagle in Chase and Hunt.

The controls can be challenging at first, although there is a clear tutorial on how to control the eagle. It consists of a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen which is standard, and speed is controlled by swiping up and down to accelerate or decelerate. They can become quite manageable after getting used to the game but if more controls options were available, it would be even better.

Visually, the high quality rendered terrains look gorgeous as you notice daylight changes throughout the game. From sunrise to sunset, within 15 minutes you will get the largest dose of nature that a hunting game can offer. Chase and Hunt packs dynamic high quality shadows that induce realistic lighting in the game. To put it simply, the graphics are breathtaking and what adds to the beauty of the natural sceneries is the concept of looking at them from above.

Furthermore, it was strange to notice how the AI became harder and harder as we played. It felt like the snakes we were trying to hunt had a mind of their own! It definitely becomes more challenging as you play and in a way, that can be perceived as an encouraging motive to confront nature’s wild citizens.

It would be interesting to see the developers provide a larger amount of challenges and prey in the game. Perhaps even a real-time multiplayer mode where different players fight for the collection of the largest amount of prey. But considering that they have surpassed the threshold of what was considered conventional within this genre, we are more than happy in how this game came to be.

Conclusively, Chase and Hunt can be your morning breakfast of exploring and living nature from the perspective of an eagle. For its novel concept, ingenious AI system, gorgeous sceneries, and open world experience; we believe the hunting genre needed a fresh title like Chase and Hunt to let players know that innovation is yet possible in a genre that hasn’t garnered much attention lately. Note that the game requires iOS 8.4 or later in order to play it. The downside to this game is that the controls can take time to get used to, the gameplay may feel repetitive after a while, and minor bugs may be encountered. Yet, for the price of $2.99 you definitely get more than what you bargained for. Now when you are asked whether you know of a game that simulates the role of being an eagle that roams beautiful landscapes through an open world experience; Chase and Hunt will be the first to come to mind. We rate it 7.8/10
